Cinderella x MAC Free As A Butterfly Lipstick and Cinderella FOTD

I will be the first to admit that Cinderella is not my favorite princess, but I have been beyond excited to see the new Cinderella movie for months now. It may have to do with a combination of things: the impeccable Lily James, Kenneth Branagh directing, Helena Bonham Carter as the fairy godmother...my British-loving heart soars! But the promised beauty of the whole movie---from the costumes to the makeup also made me eager to see it.    I am not a huge fan of MAC right now, especially their limited edition collections. It seems they pump out too many and the quality is never there, but I caved for the Cinderella collection. With a gift card I was able to snag only one lipstick, as most things had sold out by the time I got around to ordering. It is mostly a collectors' item for me, but this post will be a review of the lipstick (probably not useful since I am not sure where you can get it, but maybe fun?) and the FOTD that I wore to go see the movie this afternoon!

The lipstick I got is 'Free As A Butterfly', which honestly, as a name, confused the heck out of me. But if you see the movie, it becomes more apparent. There are butterflies everywhere! It was $17.50, and comes in a gorgeous pale blue/purple shift tube with the gold Cinderella logo. Free As A Butterfly is a nude/champagne glitter.

 

Gorgeous right? But as I feared, it isn't very pigmented. This makes a good topper to another lip look because it settles into my lip lines when worn alone and almost gives me zombie-lips. But the nice, typical vanilla-MAC scent and the comfortable wear make me wanna swipe it on anyway, even if it will settle in ten minutes' time.

It isn't the most horrible lip look, especially not from far away, but it may not be your cup of tea on it's own. However, I will cherish it because my mom's favorite princess is Cinderella and anything Cinderella reminds me of her. Naturally, she was my date to the movie!

To prepare for this momentous occasion, I had to do a FOTD (which the lovely ticketing girl noticed. WIN). I was inspired by the promo images and the image I put at the beginning of this post---that dress!

 

I went with blue eyes, peachy cheeks, and of course, Free As A Butterfly on the lips.

NYX Tinted Brow Mascara in Blonde: A lovely, basic tinted mousse.

Bare Minerals Morning Glow loose shadow: I used this as a highlight on my eyes. It is a pearlized pink shimmer and gave just the right amount of sparkle.

NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk: To prime and make the baby blue color pop.

Clinique Clubby Stick in Big Blue: Washed over the lid.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Khol Liner in Light Blue: Used on lower lash line.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics colour pencil in Pool Boy: Also on lower lash line to pop the edge of the black liner.

MAC Free As A Butterfly lipstick: One light wash on lips.

Sleek Makeup blush in Rose Gold: On cheeks

I also used a L'Oreal black felt tip liner and IT Cosmetics foundation and concealer (not pictured).

Have you seen the movie? I highly suggest it! I might try to recreate some of the looks. The stepsisters' looks were crazy awesome!

#28daysoflippies: Week One Instagram Round-up

Thanks to those being really supportive of my first Instagram self-imposed challenged called 28 days of lippies.
A new day, a new lipstick/gloss/pencil for the whole month of February.
It gets me to shop my stash and break out of my comfort zone!
Week One has been the week of my nude lippies, of which I barely have any. This week really pushed me out of my comfort zone. I ended the week (today) with a rose pop of color...next week will be my pinks!

1. NYX Butter Lipgloss in Creme Brulee. $4.99. Creamy light pink/nude and decently moisturizing. 2. Maybelline Nude Lust. $7.49. New to my collection. I felt it washed me out but the formula is great! 3. Lancome Rouge in Love 304B Rose Emotion. $28. A pretty, leaning light coral nude pink. Great, featherlight formula. 4. Urban Decay Native. $22. Creamy and pigmented, but thick. 5. Khroma Beauty Joystick in Sea Coral. $8.99. A matte light coral. Love the vanilla smell! 6. M.A.C Stay Sweet. $15. Lightest baby pink. Settles into lines but I still love it. 7. Rimmel Picadilly Pink. $5. My prelude to the pinks, a rosy neutral.

Great Gatsby Look Book: Daisy Buchanan

Hi Pandas! I am so excited for this post. As promised, and stemming from my obsession of the Great Gatsby recently reignited by the new movie, I decided to bring you guys some looks based on the movie/character makeup. The first is Daisy Buchanan 

 I had such a fun time with this look. As we all know, Daisy Buchanan is Jay Gatsby's love and Carey Mulligan only emphasizes her perfection. 

 

 

 

These are the pictures that I based the look off of. Daisy's makeup is simple but glamorous, with well-defined brows, black liner, pink/red lips, and her drawn on beauty mark.

 

 

Here are the products I used: 1: M.A.C Beauty Powder (LE/Barbie) in Pearl Blossom but any light pink blush will do.2: Too Faced Boudoir Eyes for a light and natural look.3: Physicians Formula Organic Wear FakeOut mascara (2 coats).4: L'Oreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in Grey to create Daisy's smudged-out eye.5: NYX Collection Noir Liquid Black Liner for the beauty mark.6. L'Oreal Color Riche Caress in Infinite Fuschia 

 

The eyes are one of my favorite parts of Daisy's look because they are simple and clean, and almost everyone has the tools for a simple black winged liner.

 

 

Make your lips the focal point of the look, and don't let the beauty mark intimidate you. The smaller you create it, the easier it is to wear in public. Just make sure to use a very pigmented and water-resistant black liquid liner (if you want it to stand out) or pencil if you want it to look more natural.

 

 

On my nails I am wearing Julep Zora from the 20's collection that debuted last month, which was a perfect fit for this look!

NYX Matte Lipstick in Bloody Mary

Red lips will never go out of style, and with this debate between Ruby Woo and Riri Woo, I think matte makes a strong case for itself. 

 

Nyx Bloody Mary ($5) is a true, blue-based, matte red lipstick that comes in a rather cheap looking plastic tube, which is one of the few downsides to this product. I don't feel that the cap closes all the way, and I really wouldn't trust it in my makeup bag.

 

 

However, I do like that you can see the actual color through the tube. It makes it easy to identify!

 

 

Here is a swatch of Bloody Mary with natural light. You can see that it is very blue-based, which is a bit hard to wear, but it makes for the most stunning and classic red lip.

 

 

With flash, you can see even more of the blue undertone. Keep in mind that this is highly pigmented. One little swipe and this is full, opaque coverage. I would suggest a lip brush to maneuver around the outside of your lips, and a lip liner.

 

 

This really is a show-stopping red. It is dry on the lips and will accentuate lines and flakes, so prep well before hand for a flawless look. It lasts about 5 hours, fades pretty evenly, but does require a close-eye on it to keep it looking its best.

 

Do I recommend? Yes! A cheap, dependable matte red. But since mattes are finicky, keep this in your stash for special occasions.

Face and Outfit of the Day!

Today is really important. Firstly, because it is my first day experimenting with makeup and my new red hair. Secondly, it is Gary Oldman's birthday...my ultimate British celeb crush and genuinely awesome guy. So, here is my OOTD and FOTD to celebrate!

Here is your cheat sheet for my look today.

1) Clinique Perfectly Real Makeup in Shade 01 (N). $26. I patted this all over my face and pressed it in with warm fingers. The consistency is drier, so this method works for me.

2) NYX Are You DepEYEved Mascara $8 and NYX Natural Palette $7. I used the lightest shade in the palette all over my eye and contoured with the middle tan shade and the light grey shade. One coat of mascara on my top and bottom lashes.

3) M.A.C. Pearl Blossom Beauty Powder from the Barbie collection (oldie but goodie, shopping the stash here).

4) Revlon PhotoReady pressed translucent powder in shade 001. $8. I blotted this with a big kabuki brush all over my face to set foundation and blush.

5) Neutrogena Skinclearing Blemish Concealer in Fair. $7. I dotted this on two trouble spots and blotted again with the powder.

6) To conceal my dark circles I used Clinique All About Eyes concealer in 01 Light Neutral (the match for my foundation although it does pull more yellow) $16. I used a concealer brush to pat this under my eyes.

7) Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser $10 went on top of the concealer to airbrush and add the protective benefits and the Vitamin C to keep my eyes looking bright all day.

8) Babylips Peach Kiss to balance out my look with nude/peach hydration.

9) The final step was lining my eyes with Sephora Flashy Liner in Flashy Ultra Green. $12. Pantone's shade of the year--emerald! I think it goes well with the red hair and doesn't make me look like too much of a leprechaun!

 

Just a light, thick line on my upper lid with a very small wing-out did the trick!
