Orange Is The New Red: Some Oranges I Love and One That Made Me Go What?!

Who am I kidding, red will always be my lip color of choice, but as it gets really really hot here in California, and as the orange lip trend is spreading like wildfire, I wanted to show you what I reach for when I want an orange lip. And to end...an orange lip warning of sorts.

orange lipstick swatches
Surprisingly, these are the only orange lippies that I own, beyond some balms and a Lancome gloss I have practically finished, so any recommendations are welcome in the comments!

From left to right:
Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in Geranium ($8.99): A gel finish with just a hint of sparkle. A very true orange.
Lipstick Queen Chinatown Glossy Pencil in Chase ($22): Balmy but still gives nice color, this shade runs more pinky/orange.
Beautifully Disney Change Your Fate Lipgloss ($14.95): A sheer orange gloss without sparkle.
NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Orangesicle ($6.99): So pigmented! An orange that leans more red than the other shades.
NYX Macaron Lipstick in Orange Blossom ($6.99): A matte pastel orange. More on this later.

Revlon Ultra HD lipstick in Geranium is a recent find. It is the line that Emma Stone is touting all over the television, so naturally I picked it up at Ulta through some type of subconscious marketing. I love the consistency. It is gel-like and buildable with a punchy finish on the lips. Lasts roughly 4 hours on me but I hate the packaging (can be seen in first photo), just plastic and kind of tacky in my opinion.

Lipstick Queen Chinatown Glossy Pencil in Chase
I have had Lipstick Queen's Chinatown glossy pencil in Chase for a while now, and I still reach for it often. I love the thinness of both the consistency and the actual pencil and it feels good on the lips. This is not the most intense orange since it reads a bit pinker on lips, but it is still fresh. I do disklike the smell of Lipstick Queen lippies though--very drugstore/artificial.

Beautifully Disney Change Your Fate gloss
The Beautifully Disney gloss in Change Your Fate, named after Princess Merida, is also something I reach for regularly when I want something subtle but not typical pink. This is a sheer look, similar to the Lipstick Queen pencil.

NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Orangesicle
NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Orangesicle is new to my collection, but it much different than the original Butter Gloss formula. The smell is the same, but this is thicker and more like a liquid lipstick than a gloss. As you can see it is full pigment in one swipe and really should be worn with a liner. I think it is a gorgeous bright orange color but because of the thickness does get a bit messy if you over-apply.

NYX macaron lipstick in orange blossom
NYX Macaron Lipstick in Orange Blossom was something I wanted forever and after looking at swatches, I thought this would be a matte bright orange. Um...who on Instagram is swatching this?? Because this is not what I have seen ladies. DO NOT TRUST THE GRAM. As you can see, this is a sickly sad pumpkin color with extra horrible sprinkled in. Please avoid. I don't know how I can make this work because Ulta accidentally sent me TWO of these when I ordered these so long ago. Help.

What is your favorite orange lippie? Do tell!

A Rose is a Rose: Swatches and Review

My last new gloss from the Beautifully Disney line is called "A Rose is a Rose" named after my all-time favorite princess, Belle, from Beauty and the Beast.

Although I am not a huge fan of the new "glam" princesses, I still think the packaging is beautiful. A Rose is a Rose is part of the Unlock the Spell collection by Beautifully Disney, which includes Tiana and Rapunzel.

A Rose is a Rose is a very pretty mauve/pink with gold shimmer (definitely more mauve on lips than this swatch). The formula is consistent with around 3 hours wear time without eating (it does melt into the lips during that times and becomes more satiny than glossy) and no weirdly fake lip gloss smell, which I like.

Out of all the shades Beautifully Disney offers in lip gloss, this is the best My Lips But Better shade, and is the most natural and flattering. However, it isn't really unique. My love of Belle prompted this pick up, but other shades are much more unique!

Take note---BD recently launched their Fantasy in Flight collection, which is all about the Fairies! Looks pretty cute to me, but I will have to grab some of the other glosses from older collections before they discontinue them!

Unlock the Spell: L'Amour Mauve Eye Shadow Collection from Beautifully Disney

I didn't just try out the lippies from the Beautifully Disney line, but gave one of their eye shadow palettes a whirl as well!
The Unlock the Spell eye shadow palette by Beautifully Disney retails for $27.95 with four huge shadows in a gorgeous collectors palette with outlines of Tiana, Belle, and Rapunzel: the three Princesses who literally have to unlock a spell in their stories.

This palette is called L'Amour Mauve, which is no surprise considering the rose tones housed within it. I love how big the pans are, and the colors are easy to make a look out of!

There is a sparkling cream color, a dusty deep mauve, a red-toned violet, and a sparkling medium toned brown. All have some shimmer but no heavy glitter.

Overall, they perform fairly well, although they are patchy on my hand. They blend into a nice eye look (coming soon!) and I really love the concept and packaging. I also like that they put together four shades that actually work well together!

However, you may have similar shades in your stash, and although this formula is nothing to sneeze at, it's not perfect. I also wish it had a mirror!

I will probably be sticking with BD glosses and polishes in the future, but I am glad I have this to pull out whenever I want to feel like a Princess!

Change Your Fate with the Merida Beautifully Disney Lip Gloss

Another Beautifully Disney product today, and one that represents a newer, and really awesome princess.

Meet the Merida lip gloss called "Change Your Fate" from the Fiery Spirit collection ($14.95).

Change Your Fate is a great bright orange that leans slightly light red. It will be a perfect color for spring and summer and of course, totally embodies Merida's amazing hair!

Merida is fierce and independent, but has a strong love for her family---I could gush about Brave all day, and while I do, I can wear this lip gloss!

As with my previous reviews of this formula, I have yet to be disappointed. 3 hour wear, nice texture, feels comfortable on lips, beautiful packaging, no artificial smell.

Change Your Fate may just sway me into wearing orange more often!

You can find these at select Disney stores, in the Disney Parks, and online.

Happy Princessing!

Beautifully Disney: Spell Breaker Lip Gloss

Hey everyone!

I hope your holiday was fantastic! I am so excited to show you one of the presents I received.

Being a long-time Disney fan and a annual pass holder means that I frequently run into things in the park that I want. This lip gloss was no exception.

Beautifully Disney is a line of 'luxe' makeup that Disney released about  year ago, and their collection is growing!

Spell Breaker ($14.95 but frequently 3 for $30) is a gorgeous light pink opaque gloss representative of Rapunzel from the movie Tangled.

Rapunzel is one of my favorite Princesses! And this color represents her well, opaque pink that leans slightly lilac.

The packaging is gorgeous and was a draw for me when I purchased my first BD lipgloss (Snow White) last year. Rapunzel is drawn in black with some accents of gold on a sturdy tube with a black handle.

Coverage is good with one swipe but I layered it twice on my lips for a more opaque look. The glosses have a small doe foot applicator and no scent. Spell Breaker is really easy to wear, and feels good on my drier lips.

This gloss is not sticky at all which I love! Wear time varies from 2-3 hours for me, which is about what I get with most glosses (a girl needs to eat!) and I really enjoy wearing this formula.

I honestly love the Beautifully Disney line, and not just because I am a Disney fan. It seems they really put time into making sure the formula was decent before selling this stuff, which surprised me. I received a few more things from this line, so we will have to see how those compare!

What do you think of Spell Breaker?

Who is your favorite Disney Princess?
