Sally Hansen Peptide Lip Smoother and Invisible Lip Liner: Review

I am all about taking care of my lips. I go through Babylips like they are water, but when Sally Hansen came out with her new lip care line, I had to see what it was all about. I picked up a treatment: the Peptide Lip Smoother ($7) and the Invisible Lip Liner ($8). 

 Let's talk about the Peptide Lip Smoother first.  This product claims to give back 128% moisture to your lips as well as restore firmness and plumpness. You are really only supposed to use this twice a day, but I prefer it as a night treatment. 

 Let me tell you why---this is a thin, milky treatment that WILL leave a white cast on your lips. It also takes a while to sink in, has a slightly gritty texture, and smells a bit herbal and medicinal.  I have been using this for a little over a week, around and on my lips at night and I have noticed a distinct difference. My lips look healthier, lose less moisture throughout the day, and look more even in tone (which is kinda weird, but I guess nice). The downsides of this for me is that this does not feel luxurious. The texture is awkward, and so is the smell, and honestly, it isn't that fun to put on at night, even when the results are there. I will probably use up this tube, then maybe move onto Hourglass' treatment oil. Even though there is a considerable price jump, I had hoped this would feel better on my lips along with the good results. Now, for the invisible lip liner: 

 This is overall a very solid product. It has a ton of shea butter in the formula so it glides on easily and basically acts as a barrier to prevent lipstick from feathering, and since it is invisible, you can use it with any lipstick. This works well, but does not work wonders. It keeps my lipstick from feathering into what tiny lines I have, but does not increase the wear time of my lipstick. All in all, both of these products do what they claim, but they don't wow me. Of the two, I say pick up the peptide lip smoother if you don't think you will mind the funky feel and smell, because it honestly does work! What other lip treatments do you love?

Nail Transformation with Butter London Tea & Toast

Hello Pandas! I wanted to try out my new Butter London nude collection polish in Tea & Toast, so I thought I would do a fun Cowgirl nail tutorial.

 

This is the lovely Butter London Tea & Toast, which is a true tan color. I am not sure if I am loving how it looks on my fingers, but the formula is excellent; smooth, self-leveling, and perfect. This is two easy coats as a base for my nail art.

 

Here is what Tea & Toast looks like in flash or bright light. A little bit lighter. The price of Butter London polishes is $15, and they can be found at Nordstroms, Ulta, and online.

 

 

I then layered one coat of Sally Hansen Haute Chocolate over Tea & Toast. I left some of the tan showing. Even this looked cute by itself.

 

 

Since I was going line dancing the night I did these nails, I decided to use a black striping polish to draw a horseshoe. I dotted it with white polish and made a little shadow with a silver striping polish.

 

What do you guys think? A fun way to use your not so flattering neutrals!

Sally Hansen Plumping Lip Primer: Quick Review

Back again with another quick review!

 

 

This is the new Sally Hansen Plumping Lip Primer. It is a clear primer in a twist up tube and retails for $6.99. I order it from Ulta.com as it is hard to find in stores. They also have a peptide lip balm and invisible liner.

 

 

There are two things this little balm does. The first is that it has a plumping effect. Not as strong as some plumpers (Too Faced, etc) but stronger than a menthol balm. It also claims to extend the wear of your lip product 2x as long. I experienced about a 3 hour extension in my lip product wear. So...not quite the claim but pretty good. It also prevents feathering.

 

The downfall of this product is that the balm part is really small. It feels like it might break off (think the mini versions of the Fresh balms) and it feels delicate.

 

Overall, a good thing to have in your lip kit for special nights!

Mani of the Week featuring Julep's Lauren!

I have been thinking of doing a mani of the week so this is an attempt!

 

 

 

This mani was very much inspired by a hopefulness for warmer weather in California as well as a nod to 60's mod. I did a white base with Sally Hansen's White On and then left a little bit of the white exposed as I painted the hot pink over it. Finished with a layer of Posche topcoat.

 

 

Julep's Lauren was the perfect color for this mani. It is a bright, almost fluorescent pink that dries slightly matte. The matte finish would have been cool too, but I love manicures to be glossy. The formula for this particular color runs a little thick but is still easy to work with.

 

 

What do you guys think? Hit or miss?

 

 



Mani of the Week featuring Julep's Lauren!

I have been thinking of doing a mani of the week so this is an attempt!

 

 

 

This mani was very much inspired by a hopefulness for warmer weather in California as well as a nod to 60's mod. I did a white base with Sally Hansen's White On and then left a little bit of the white exposed as I painted the hot pink over it. Finished with a layer of Posche topcoat.

 

 

Julep's Lauren was the perfect color for this mani. It is a bright, almost fluorescent pink that dries slightly matte. The matte finish would have been cool too, but I love manicures to be glossy. The formula for this particular color runs a little thick but is still easy to work with.

 

 

What do you guys think? Hit or miss?

 

 



For the Love of Your Cuticles

As the weather grows colder, I find that my nails and my cuticles need a lot more care. I change my polish every other day, and am very active with my hands (crafting, painting, swatching) so I need to replenish moisture often.

Sometimes, lotion just doesn't do the trick. I decided to give Sally Hansen Quick Care Cuticle Treatment Pen a chance to wow me.

I like pen applicators. They have less mess and I can carry them in my purse! Score! This little baby will set you back about $6.99.

 

Even though I had to turn the click dial about 4,000 times to get anything to come out, the formula is amazing and softened my cuticles literally before my eyes. It also has this fantastic massage tip so you can slough off dead cuticles in the process of application. Brilliant!

 

This formula has Sweet Almond Oil, Mango Seed Butter and Tea Tree Oil. It smells slightly herby but it does not linger for too long, and you may find it pleasant.

 

Final Thoughts: Sally Hansen is always a go-to for nails and this really did an amazing overhaul of my disgusting cuticles! Panda Approved!

Glitter Purple Nails!

I dislike purple on my nails. I don't know why, I just always have. There is a lack of purple hues that I find on the market that do not make my skin look pink-ish. But this is just my own experience.

Today, I decided to try out a purple look with a nail polish I picked up on my recent trip to Hawaii.

I was surprised to find NYX "Girls" polish in their Long's Drugs. You can't buy these puppies in most places now, and I picked this up because I loved the royal tone to this particular glitter. It was an impulse by to say the least.

The glitter is in a clear base, so I decided to layer it over a polish that doesn't get much love in my collection: Sally Hansen "Purple Potion"

I actually really like the combo!! Because NYX "Girls" polish aren't really available, I won't give you a full break down. I bought mine for $3 and this color is labeled as "151". It is just super fine royal purple glitter in a clear base and there are some bottles available on Ebay if you feel so inclined.

But I just wanted to show all of you that I have changed my mind about purple polish!
