Polish, Pages, and Pretties: Revlon Buttercup

Happy Sunday!

 

As we approach another long, and hopefully productive week, I bring you a new installment of Polish, Pages, and Pretties featuring a lovely pale yellow perfect for Spring.

 

Pale yellows are an excellent neutral, because they can be less harsh on yellow-toned skin than a tan or mocha color.

 

 

This is the polish: Revlon Colorstay Long Wearing Enamel in 100: Buttercup. It is the perfect pastel yellow. Not too strong, but with that lemony sweetness. It is like a lemon meringue!

 

 

The formula on this is a little tricky, so be ware. It is streaky on the first two coats but a third evens it out. It is also slow to dry, but the end result is pretty!

 

As for the book underneath my polished digits, this is one of my favorites! Michael Crichton's Timeline. Honestly, who doesn't love a book about a bunch of people that travel back in time to a medieval city. So cool. Much better than the movie, if you have seen that.

 

 

And, there is nothing cooler than reading an action/sci-fi book with super girly nails right? Be your own woman, and be proud to not be put into one category :)

This edition of Polish, Pages, and Pretties is a skittles mani with my favorite pastels and an intro into two of my newest polishes...all set upon the gorgeous background of one of my favorite books: Lewis Carroll's Alice and Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.

 

I love Alice in Wonderland, and I think it is a good Easter-ish book to showcase this (the white rabbit!)

And here are the two newest additions to my stash featured in this Easter pastel mani. I love Orly Peaceful Opposition. It looks like a Robin's Egg and is a creamy white base with white and silver glitter. Easy to layer.

 

Royally Yours is very pretty, a powder blue worthy of Marie Antoinette but it needs 3 coats otherwise it looks too sheer and streaky.

Polish, Pages, and Pretties: Zoya PixieDust in Godiva

Happy Polish, Pages, and Pretties Day Pandas! Whew, that was a lot of 'P' words!

 

I am so excited to show off the new PixieDust formula!

 

Here is two coats of the new Zoya PixieDust formula in Godiva holding an awesome book-- The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan.

 

I have been wanting to get my hands on one of these in a while and the best way I can describe it is like champagne bubbles! This is such a pretty beige/neutral with the PixieDust finish which basically looks like you are wearing sparkling very fine sand on your nails.

 

 

Do not put a top coat on this if you want to see the effect! However, it does look pretty with one as well. It may be counter-intuitive to not finish with a top coat, but trust me the results are worth it.

 

 

I like the PixieDust formula a little bit more than O.P.I's liquid sand because it has more sparkly and feels less rough on the fingers. This retails for $8 at Ulta and comes in a few more gorgeous shades.

 

 

Now, about this book! I wanted to take pictures of this particular polish with this book because these nails are a edgy take on the classic neutral, just as this book came along and fought against the 50's housewife stigma. I think everyone should read it...but if you aren't interested, at least you have physically seen it so now you know what they are talking about in "Ten Things I Hate About You" haha :)

Welcome to another addition of Polish, Pages, and Pretties featuring a sheer pink glitter polish by Essence called Party Princess.

 

 

This book is one of my favorites, and I always reach for it and sometimes just read certain sections or chapters. It brings me back to a more romantic time.

 

 

Essence Party Princess is much more of a party in the bottle, and I love how the caps match the polish now! This is so cute on a vanity, but it is more of a topcoat in reality. Sheer hot pink jelly mixed with iridescent flakies.

 

 

This polish wore for a week without chips and is still going strong (although I will be removing it soon for Franken Tuesday!!) and sidenote...I can't believe how long my nails are getting. Thanks O.P.I Nail Envy!

 

 

If you aren't familiar with Camille and enjoy books like Pride and Prejudice and other love stories...check this one out. It is by Alexandre Dumas Fils.

Polish, Pages, and Pretties: Butter London Fiver

Hello Pandas!

I decided to spice up the blog a bit I am going to still be doing reviews but I am going to add a few new weekly posts along with Franken Tuesdays. They will include some Panda-monium Mondays, a FOTD post, and this one...called Polish, Pages, and Pretties where I will photograph a new polish swatch with books or jewelery, or both! I know there are other blogs that do the book thing and I am not trying to rip them off whatsoever, just do a new spin on it and see how it works. Enjoy!

 

 

Here is Butter London Fiver from the Spring 2013 collection. It is a gorgeous pale mint, paler than a lot of the other mints in similar collections and runs more green than blue.

 

 

I did like the other colors from the collection, but they are all pretty easy to dupe, so I picked the color that is taking over--mint. We are seeing it everywhere and I love the trend. For $14, you can easily be Spring ready without buying a whole new mint wardrobe.

 

 

Fiver was easy to work with. It is streaky with one coat, but two evens it out brilliantly and gives a nice shiny finish. I think this would also look lovely matte. Dry time is quicker than average, and faster than most of my other BL's. I get about a weeks wear from Butter London polishes.

 

 

Here is Fiver next to the amazing and hilarious "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (and other concerns)" by Mindy Kaling. I am obsessed with her and her new show. Must read and must watch!
