Julep Paris Jazz Trio for Lips

Julep used to once do tips, and now they also do lips! In May's Julep box, there was an option for a little back of three mini lipsticks along with the polishes. There was a New York option, but I chose the Paris Jazz Trio.

I kinda think Julep was inspired by the upcoming Great Gatsby movie, as everything in the box was very 20's themed, obviously (including the polishes, which are forthcoming!). They did a great job marketing, because the movie comes out on the 10th and this cute little package is already getting me revved up (although they had no association with the Leo-filled movie). Just luck I guess?

 

Is this not the most adorable thing ever? I mean, come on, it is like a vintage cigarette box or something. The lipsticks are very very small, but cute! These were basically an extra in the box anyway as I received two full-sized polishes and some sweet hair clips, so I am not complaining!

 

 

From Left to Right: Lady in Red (a matte red cream), Sweet Lorraine (a sheer light pink) and Charleston (a sheer red).

 

 

They are shown in the same order as listed. Lady in Red is so pretty, the perfect blue-based red that is very flattering. The pink is okay, but is more of a lip-sheer on me, and Charleston gives a nice red tint. Overall, a cute little trio. They have no distinct smell or taste and wear nicely. Not the world's best lipstick, but if they do make Lady in Red in a full size, I will consider getting it!

Julep December Box!

I have been a Julep member since August now, and only skipped one box (last month, not a fan of suede's) and so far I have been pleasantly surprised. For $19.99 a month, you get a ton of product (these are $12-14 on their own) and the quality is great!

This month was no exception!

 

From left to right: Vivien (a clear base with large and small gold glitter), Harper (a stunner in a jelly green base with gold, blue, and green smallish glitter), and Ivy (a royal shimmer that flashes electric purple)

 

 

The box also came with peppermints, a fab inspirational Winston Churchill quote for the holiday, and an extra surprise!

 

 

In a darling black pouch, Julep included all the things to make your own nail polish jewelry! You may have noticed that nail polish jewelry is all the rage on Etsy, and I received a glass cabochon and a ring base.

As Julep suggested, I painted the flat part of the cabochon with a base coat, and then started to paint it with Harper. As you can see Harper is sheer and jelly-like, but very pretty as a layering polish.

 

 

I then added a coat of Vivien to give it a little pizazz. Then just stick the dry cabochon in the ring base, bend down the metal to hold it in, and you have custom jewelry!

 

 

Vivien and Harper are both layering glitters, but Ivy can hold her own as a polish. Here you can see the jelly finish in two coats with blue and purple glitter. One of the most unique polishes I own!

 

 

Here you can see more of the flash of purple in the bottle. Simply stunning. I love Julep. They are 3 free polishes in classy bottles that last 4-5 chip free days. Excellent.

Julep October Box!

Hey everyone! More polish, hope you don't mind :)

I am a member of Julep, the nail polish box monthly subscription. I have tried Birchbox and hated it, but I do find that getting three full sized polishes every month is well worth the $20 bucks I spend, considering these babies are $14 on Sephora.com.

This month, I added another polish to my shipment for only $4. So I got 4 polishes for $24!! Crazy right?

 

These are the two 'crackle' polishes. The silver is called Glenda, and the white (my add on) is called Hermione. I had to get it for the name alone, obviously!

 

 

This pretty blackened crimson is called Caroline. I also received a sparkly black called Leslie (not pictured)

 

 

Here is Hermione over Leslie. Pretty! I love how opaque Hermione is!

 

 

Here are both Hermione and Glenda alternating as topcoats over Caroline. I love the Julep crackles. They are easy to use and not too thick.

 

Final Thoughts: Super happy with this months' box, I would recommend all of them! Julep polishes last well on me and I love the bottle shape as well!

Julep Maven Intro Box: Thoughts and Review

Hey :)

I just signed up for the Julep Maven program and got my intro box in 'It Girl' for one penny. I've been curious about Julep polishes for a while, since people rave about them. I have to report that I have mixed feelings.

This is what I received in my intro box. For one penny (seriously, that isn't a gimmick. I paid $.01, no shipping and handling with code COLOR12).

Toe seperators, Julep Lily, Julep Sasha, and Julep Daisy.

Let's take a look at Lily first. This is a fushia polish. Here it is two coats of a base coat, with Seche Vite as a topper. You really need a glossy top coat, because even though these are creams, they dry weirdly matte. I dislike that.

This is a very pretty summery color. It retails for $14. All Julep polishes are 3 free and not tested on animals. They barely have any noxious polish scent either.

I am going to give you the bad news before the good news. Sasha was a complete bust. The polish was goopy and gross and thick and for $14 (okay okay, one cent) it shouldn't be that way. This is high end polish! I will probably contact Julep to tell them. I think this was *hopefully* a bad batch.

It literally pains me to show you this. This is how it applied on my toes. I couldn't even get full coverage. it clumped and smeared and it is just gross. I am sorry for disturbing you, but you needed to be warned.

So I promptly removed that hot mess and painted my toes with Daisy. MUCH better. Pretty creamy yellow. This is one coat. I could probably do two, but after the Sasha debacle, I had no more patience. Sorry for showing you my freakishly long toes.

Final Thoughts: I am a little concerned. I hope Sasha was a fluke. I will probably only try one more box though.

Price: 8/10 (yay for the one cent box, neigh for $14 a pop polish)
Staying Power: 8/10
Packaging: 10/10
Color/Wearability: 9/10
Quality/Branding: 7/10 (There should be better quality control here).
