L'Oreal Infallible Silkissime Liner in Charcoal

I'm normally not a pencil liner gal. I have practiced and practiced my wing-liner skills and am pretty on my game there (relatively speaking)---so liquid is usually my go-to. But I've heard some buzz about the L'Oreal Silkissime liners (seriously though, how do you say that? Silk-kiss-me? Or Silkiss-ime? Please help) and decided to pick up one during a buy one get one half off of L'Oreal products at Ulta (still going on in most Ultas with Maybelline and L'Oreal products right now).Now that I have tried it, this has easily become my new favorite black liner.

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen this picture. I decided to try writing my name with the pencil and it did it smoothly, evenly, and creamily with no skips and little pressure in about 3 seconds. That was the point I began to get excited, and the testing began.

Silkissime liners run $8.99 but you could easily get them cheaper with coupons or promotions, but are definitely worth picking up. I really wanted 'Black', which is the most gorgeous matte pitch black (gives UD's Zero a major run for it's money) but they didn't have it and I settled for Charcoal (which I still love).

Charcoal is slightly shimmery, as seen in the swatch above. Its not totally noticeable on the eye, but its there. 

Because this is an extremely creamy liner, oily eyes should prime well. Silkissime claims to wear for 16 hours and is waterproof. The waterproof part is definitely apparent, you need dual phase makeup remover to get this off. The 16 hours---well, the liner lasted about 13 looking pretty darn perfect on my eye, but I chose to take it off then.

I primed my eyes well and this stayed, but when used on the waterline, I found the creaminess smudged a bit to my lower lash line, so be aware of that. However, if you are into the smudgy look--this does that well! You have a few seconds to smudge out before it really sets.

Keep in mind that my pencil eyeliner skills lack from obvious lack of practice, but I managed a decent cat eye and the look remained all day (I'm not wearing mascara here so it would look way better with mascara ha..).

Overall, I am pleased and pleasantly surprised by L'Oreal Silkissime liner, even if I can't say the name for the life of me.

Rimmel Soft Kohl Eye Liner in Jet Black

Not all black eye liners are created equally. How does Rimmel's basic one stand up to the rest? 

 At a mere $5, Rimmel's Soft Kohl Kajal Eye liner in Jet Black pencil is a steal. It is creamy, pretty black, and applies easily. 

 This is your standard eye liner pencil. No bells or whistles here, but it doesn't tug or pull on the lash line, so that is a plus! 

 You can use this as a base for a very dark eye look, as a thick liner, or to tight line. However you use it, it sticks around, but does smudge a bit. Great if you are doing a smoky eye, not so great if you are looking for a very precise line. Overall, this is your better than average black kohl drugstore liner. Will I buy another? No---there are plenty of other black liner fish in the sea for me to try, but I will pull this out for smoky eye looks! Favorite drugstore black liner?

I Love Punk! Essence Chubby Liner

Who doesn't love chubby, punky, black liners? I know that they have a huge draw for me, especially when under $3!

 

This is the I (Heart) Punk jumbo eyeliner pen in black. I found it at Ulta and it is by Essence. I really like Essence because their products are cheap, cute in a novelty way, and tend to work nicely. Cheap thrills!

 

Another cool thing about this pen is that it come with a plastic cap underneath the original cap to keep the marker-like tip from drying out.

 

 

Here are the three thicknesses that this can create. The tip is the top of the liner only. The middle was me smushing it across my hand horizontally (the side of the liner) and the bottom is swiping it with the liner vertically to create a really thick line.

 

 

On my hand it looks really black, but this took two go overs to get this opacity, otherwise it is more grey. It is really easy to work with and wing out and dries semi-glossy.

 

 

Not the most pigmented in the world. It also has a kinda sweet scent. Not offensive and not lingering, but not what you would expect an eyeliner to smell like. It also takes a while to dry. In one way this is cool because you can press your finger to it and blend it upwards to create those messy, Taylor Momsen eyes. But if you want something quick, this isn't going to be it.

 

Overall, a fun cheap thrill. I like the mini cap, the packaging, and the versatility. But it does have a learning curve that may not be worth even the few dollars.
