NYX Butter Lip Balm in Red Velvet: Review and Swatches
I had so much love for NYX's Butter Lip Gloss, that when I saw the Butter Lip Balms, I had to try one.
For right around $4, NYX Butter Lip Balm is their version of Maybelline's Baby Lips. You know how I love Babylips, so how did this stack up?
In general, more of the Butter Lip Balm shades seem to be more pigmented than the Babylips original range. There is a lovely sweet smell (strawberries) to this and it is very moisturizing. Lasted about 3 hours on me and left my lips in good shape. The packaging is cute too, with the color tube indicating the color inside. *However, there is no SPF in this, so that is a drawback*
With Red Velvet you get a sheer wash of pretty red, nothing too crazy. I think these are right on par with Babylips minus the SPF. The formula is a little bit thicker (if that makes sense), but in some ways they are a bit more moisturizing. I will have to try out a few more before I would say I would convert, but it is a good cheap thrill! And cruelty free too!
I adore my cherry Babylips and anything sporting the words "red" and "velvet" speaks to me on some primal level, lol, so I'll def be getting one of these! I'd never heard of them before so thanks for the intro :) Nice that these are more moisturizing than Babylips... If I had one complaint about them, that'd be it :)
I don't know why but when lip balms are not too pigmented, I think they should have sun protection as a tradeoff. I did like the baby lips b/c of the sunscreen, but they were not moisturizing. I assumed before reading your review that these would be more pigmented like revlon lip butters. Nice shade though. Pretty for Autumn / Holidays.
No SPF sadly :(. It doesn't mean much to me because I always start any lip with a clear SPF, so this is mainly for the color and moisture. I agree though...it probably should have an spf

ReplyDeleteHaha, I agree...I had to get it for the color and name. But they DO NOT smell like red velvet so be warned. More like strawberries?
DeleteYour lips, your lips, your lips... :-) Another gorgeous shade for you!
ReplyDeleteawww you are too sweet, thank you!

Thanks! I do not think there is a perfect product out there yet. Babylips are SPF and some color...these are some color and moisture. Its a toss up!
DeleteNice! No SPF though, hey? I'm probably not a huge fan of the Baby Lips, but I appreciate the SPF they have. If I wear a lip balm, it has to have SPF.

DeleteI saw these yesterday and was curious about them! I'm not a huge lip stick person so maybe I will try these out :)
ReplyDeleteJust pick one shade that maybe looks interesting and give it a try :)
DeleteNice my lips but way juicier shade! :D
ReplyDeleteTotally! A true MLBB!
DeleteHaven't heard of these, looks like a bit of nice color but I agree, these days I want SPF!
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's the major downfall here.
DeleteI love baby lips but this sounds even better! <3 things that smell fruity as well!
ReplyDeleteI think you will like them Krystle, and they have a ton more shades!
DeleteI've nominated you for the liebster award, love your blog!
